There will be easy walking, and birding from the tour van, and great opportunities for photographers. Our region is wintering grounds to thousands of Sandhill Cranes from as far away as Russia, along with several races of Red tailed Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, Owls in addition to many overwintering sparrows and grassland birds.
We will depart shortly after a delicious gourmet breakfast provided by the innkeepers of Casa de San Pedro. We will head to El Frida, AZ to the White Water Draw Wildlife Area only one hour’s drive from the inn. Along the way we will stop to view soaring hawks, and songbirds that we encounter. At White Water Draw we will encounter up to 10000+ Sandhill Cranes returning to their daytime grounds from feeding in the nearby cornfields. In addition to the cranes we will experience a dozen species of Sparrows, with instructions how to identify them. We will watch for Hawks, Eagles, Falcons, which are frequently seen there and Great horned Owls are a common resident there as well. Expect surprises as no two days at WWD are alike! Lunch will be included, and served picnic style at the picnic tables. After lunch we will bird along the way returning to the inn completing our 5 hour tour.
