I have been birding for 41 years. My favorite clients are those who are interested in birds, watching them and even learning about their behavior, not just checking birds off a life list. I enjoy people and want to have fun while birding. As a bird watcher since 1972, I have acquired a broad knowledge of birds, birdsong, habitat and behavior. One of the things I enjoy most about taking people out birding is teaching my clients how to identify birds and how to recall their song. We were in Asheville, NC for 5 years, and Bisbee, AZ 10 years before that. Currently we are house hunting in New Mexico.

Mexico Trip Jan. 2015

In Jan. of this year my wife Wren had the opportunity to paint some endemic tree species do Sonora, Mexico for friends who own El Pedregal, a beautiful guest ranch in Alamos. We decided that it would be fun take a small group of friends down there to bird. As many of you know the drug wars down in Mexico have caused fear in American Tourists/TV watchers. Because I stay in contact with my friends who own the inn I understand that the fear-based news is propaganda. I feel 100% comfortable traveling to Mexico with my clients.
Our trip was fantastic, and I would highly recommend you considering taking a trip to Mexico for spectaculars birding and tropical temperatures during the cold winter months. Oct-Mar are wonderful months to be down in the Tropical Deciduous Forrests of Southern Sonora.
Some of the highlights of trip were remarkable views of Squirrel Cuckoo right in the yard of the inn, Purplish backed Jays, Black throated Magpie Jays, Blue Mockingbird, Sinaloa Wren, Rufous bellied Chachalaca, Bare throated Tiger Heron, Green Kingfisher, Black vented Orioles feeding on the Morning Glory Trees, and so much more.

We had delicious meals cooked by the inn owner Jen MacKay, and her friendly staff. Other meals were provided by local restaurants in town adding local flavor and ambience. On the last day of the trip we were treated to a raft trip down the Rio Mayo by local guide Armando. It was the highlight of the tour.
