I have been birding for 41 years. My favorite clients are those who are interested in birds, watching them and even learning about their behavior, not just checking birds off a life list. I enjoy people and want to have fun while birding. As a bird watcher since 1972, I have acquired a broad knowledge of birds, birdsong, habitat and behavior. One of the things I enjoy most about taking people out birding is teaching my clients how to identify birds and how to recall their song. We were in Asheville, NC for 5 years, and Bisbee, AZ 10 years before that. Currently we are house hunting in New Mexico.

Colorado Prairie Chicken Trip 2016

If you have yet to experience the Colorado a Prairie Chicken Trip, I highly recommend you do so! Www.higlonesometours.com. this trip fills fast!
This year we had a group of 14 friendly birders and 2 guides, myself and Kip Miller. The first part of the trip we have beautiful Springlike temps of low 70's. The last few days a typical late Spring snowstorm set in creating some excitement and travel delays. All of the birds were cooperative for cameras and binos alike. The accommodations and food were above average. Some of the species that our group encountered were Lesser and Greater Prairie Chicken, Greater Sage Grouse, Gunnison Sage Grouse, White tailed Ptarmigan, Dusky Grouse, Sharp tailed Grouse, Chukkar, Mountain Plover, Chestnut -collared and McCowen's Longspurs to name a few.....

We had Burrowing Owls, Rough-Legged Hawks, Ferruginous Hawks, Prairie Falcon, Golden and Bald Eagles, American Dipper, PiƱon Jays, Stellar's Jays, Mountain, Eastern, Western Bluebirds and many more!

A highlight of the trip was in Buena Vista where we encountered a neighborhood with all three Rosy-finches: Brown-capped, Gray-Crowned, and Black. We also experienced a Brown Thrasher, an Eastern vagrant. I look forward to seeing you on this trip next year!

As for my situation, my wife and I are working on moving to the Silver City, NM area.  I will continue to guide in Arizona, but will also be guiding in NM which is excellent for birds. My goal is to find accessible Flammulated and Spotted Owls. In addition this area is good for Common Black Hawks, Acorn Woodpeckers, Townsend's Solitaires, Bridled Titmice, Painted Redstart and more...for the next few months I am busy leading and co leading trips in Arizona, and will be working some private tours. Best thing to do, as always is to email me at wezilwalraven@gmail.com or call me 520-366-3677.
